Reports reaching us from social media users, yet to be confirmed by the police and state emergency service, claims a fuel tanker is burning at Lagos-Ibadan Express was. “If you’re driving on that route, best be careful. Fire fighters, assistance needed,” says Jojo Amiegbe, a Twitter user who shared a video of the incident. This is coming barely a few hours after Legit.ng reported that Onitsha residents scampered for safety in the early morning of Friday, October 18, as another fuel tanker exploded along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway by Bessoy filling station in Anambra state.
The incident reportedly occurred around Omaba Phase 2. It was learnt that the tanker was also loaded with petrol and was said to have fallen in the middle of the road spilling its content which flowed into drainage. Barely 48 hours earlier, the residents of the city had witnessed a fire accident which was also caused by a tanker laden with petrol.
The death toll from the tanker fire incident has risen to seven, including a woman and her baby dead. Properties worth millions of Naira were also burnt.
